Travel Thursday – Alibhag – Part 1

My first Christmas and New Year was celebrated at Alibhag along with some friends. We were around 15 people who include 3 kids and 4 elders. We just had so much fun at this place. We were there for around a week and each and every day was fun. Every day, we used to be awake till 1 or 2 in the midnight and were just playing dumsharas, anthakshari and cards. It was totally fun.

There are many places to see around Alibhag and we almost covered most of the places. Most of the places were beaches. I never been to beach and this was my first experience with the beaches. Initially I was very scared to get into the beach as I don’t know swimming and was scared of drowning. But the people made me comfortable and I just thoroughly enjoyed the beach.

First we visited Karnala Bird Sanctuary. It’s around 60 kms from Mumbai and 10 kms from Panvel. At entrance, we could see some peacock, parrot and other birds. But once you go inside the forest on the way to Karnala Fort, you get to see different types of birds and trees. We tried to go to Fort, but it was too steep, a bit scary and we were very tired. So we just came back half the way, but it is worth visiting this place. You can find some details about this fort here.

Next we visited the bungalow where we were supposed to stay. We stayed near Nagaon Beach which was around 2 kms from the bungalow. The bungalow was too good, surrounded by different types of Trees. The staffs were too good. The Food also was very good and the cost of living is very less.

Next day, we left to Janjira Fort. It is around 42 kms from Alibhag. This fort was constructed in 17th century and it is in the middle of the sea. We need to use the boat to reach the fort. Again, this was the first time I went in boat and it was awesome. Inside the fort, you can see mosque and palace. But the monument is in bad shape, but worth visiting this place. There was a pond which gives sweet and cold water all over the year. We were initially hesitant to taste the water, but the person told us not to worry and then finally we tasted. It tasted great. There was also a guide who told us about the fort, its history and name of all the places. The guide had good knowledge about the fort. He even entertained us with his song. He sings well and he even participated in Indian Idol contest, but unfortunately could not make it for the selection. The view from the fort is awesome. Overall, it was fun. The details of this fort are here.

There are still some more places with photos, which I will post shortly.
